DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources Forestry - Fire Program, in collaboration with the US Forest Service, is offering grants to Iowa’s rural fire departments to aid in battling wildfires.
The grant provides 50% reimbursement for wildfire suppression equipment, with a maximum of $4,500 per department.
Eligible items include fire equipment, hoses, nozzles, portable tanks, pumps, protective gear, and communication tools. Special requests tied directly to wildfire suppression are also considered. Applications are due by Oct. 15.
Fire departments are encouraged to submit Wildland Fire Reports when they respond to wildland fires, as this increases their priority in the grant application process.
Information was mailed to all Iowa volunteer fire departments, and applications can be found at iowadnr.gov/fire.
