DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources Fire Program has dispatched wildland firefighters to assist with fire management in the Rocky Mountains, the West Coast, and the Pacific Northwest.

Iowa-based firefighters are part of hand crews in Colorado and South Dakota, with additional crews supporting fire efforts in Wyoming, southern California, northern California, and Oregon.

The DNR Fire Program Supervisor, noted that while Iowa has experienced heavy rains recently, the western U.S. is facing drought conditions, increasing wildfire risk.

Officials anticipate a busy wildfire season and expects D-N-R support for federal partners to continue. This experience aids Iowa's own wildfire and prescribed fire management.
