JEFFERSON CIYT, Mo. - Starting Aug. 1, the Missouri Department of Corrections will implement the use of body scanners at adult institutions to enhance security and prevent contraband entry.
The Intercept full-body scanner will work alongside metal detectors and baggage scanners to detect weapons, drugs, and other prohibited items.
The scanning process includes recording the name and ID number of individuals entering the facilities, and taking a photograph before each scan.
The rollout schedule begins Aug. 1, with several institutions, with others following through December.
All adults entering the facilities, including staff, visitors, and vendors, may be subject to scanning, with exceptions for certain medical conditions or pregnancy.
The Intercept scanner uses a low level of transmission X-ray, deemed safe by the FDA, with radiation exposure far below annual limits even with frequent use.
