Missouri saw a rise in nonfarm payroll employment by 14,700 jobs in June 2024, with private industry adding 14,600 jobs and government employment increasing by 100. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate also rose by 0.2% points to 3.7%.

Over the past year, the state added 95,700 jobs, but the unemployment rate increased from 3% in June 2023 to 3.7% in June 2024. Private service-providing industries led the job growth, with significant gains in education and health services, leisure and hospitality, and trade, transportation, and utilities. However, goods-producing industries saw a slight decline of 1,100 jobs. The total number of unemployed Missourians in June 2024 was over 114,000 up from a little over 109,000 in May.

Missouri's labor force participation rate was 63.6%, higher than the national rate of 62.6%. Despite the rise in unemployment, Missouri's rate remains below the national average of four-point-one percent.
