Wathena boy dies one week after pool incident

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A four-year-old boy from Kansas, has died from injuries sustained in a backyard swimming pool accident.

Buchanan County Sheriff Bill Puett reported that the Wathena boy was pronounced dead Thursday morning at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. His name has not been released because he is a juvenile.

The tragic incident occurred during an Independence Day party on July 4. The boy's father and grandfather pulled him from the pool at a residence on Southwest 36th Road and performed CPR until emergency workers arrived.

The child was initially taken to Mosaic Life Care before being transferred to Children's Mercy. No other information has been released.
