Bethany animal shelter receives honor

BETHANY, Mo. - The City of Bethany Dog Pound has been recognized as a no-kill shelter by The Best Friends Network, having exceeded a 90% save rate for cats and dogs during 2023.

This achievement places the Bethany Dog Pound among the 2,226 no-kill shelters in the U.S., which make up 56.2% of all shelters nationwide.

In Missouri, 78.6% of shelters hold no-kill status, including the Albany Animal Shelter, New Nodaway Humane Society in Maryville, and Green Hills Animal Shelter in Trenton.

Iowa has 27 no-kill shelters, accounting for 52.9% of the state's total.
