DES MOINES, Iowa - It's the final month of summer and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources is recommedning a popular tradition.

Officials with the DNR, say fishing for catfish is a fun great activity to enjoy these final few weeks, especially since the catfish are actively biting in lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams across the state, regardless of the water temperature.

Anglers are advised to use a variety of baits, including dip baits, chicken livers, and minnows. The DNR recommends fishing in water no deeper than 8 to 10 feet, focusing on areas with vegetation, brush piles, or rocks.
