MO Supreme Court sets execution date for convicted man

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Supreme Court has set an execution date for a man convicted of abducting, raping and murdering a nine-year-old.

Christopher Collings, who was convicted of first-degree murder in 2012, will be executed at 6 p.m. on Dec. 3. Collings was convicted for the abduction, rape, and murder of nine-year-old Rowan Ford of Stella.

Investigators say he threw the victim's body into a sinkhole in 2007. He would eventually confess to police.

Collings had pursued various appeals, including in federal courts, but the U.S. Supreme Court denied his petition earlier this year.

The Missouri Supreme Court's order is the final step in the legal process following Collings' conviction for the crime.
