ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - A public hearing on the I-229 Double-Decker Bridge project in St. Joseph will be held at the Remington Nature Center on Thursday, Aug. 15, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The meeting will address the design and construction plans for the bridge, including its economic, social, and environmental impacts.

The current proposal involves replacing the double-decker bridge with a new four-lane arterial road, which would run at-grade and provide access to downtown only at 4th Street and a new interchange at Route 59.

This change would also involve the de-designation of I-229 as an interstate. The public can review the Environmental Assessment document on the project website or at MoDOT's Northwest District Office.

Written comments will be accepted until ten days after the hearing. Special accommodations for disabilities are available upon request by Aug. 8.
