WASHINGTON - U.S. President Joe Biden signed the Winnebago Land Transfer Act, transferring roughly 1,600 acres of land along the Missouri River from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska.

The U.S. Congress passed the Act by unanimous consent. The land, known as Winnebago Bend Wildlife Area, includes most of the waterfowl refuge at Snyder Bend Wildlife Area and will now be part of the Winnebago Reservation.

The area will be closed to public use and marked with signs. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources previously managed the land for public hunting and recreation since 1981.
