American Red Cross recognizes September as National Preparedness Month

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - September is National Preparedness Month and the American Red Cross is urging Northwest Missouri residents to be ready for natural disasters and severe weather.

Officials advise families to create emergency plans, including having two survival kits—one for home and one for on-the-go—containing essentials like food, water, and medicine.

They also recommend downloading the Red Cross Emergency app for real-time alerts and information. This year has already seen a record number of climate-related disasters, including devastating hurricanes and wildfires.

The Red Cross is prepared to provide food, shelter, and support during these emergencies and is expanding its capacity to handle future disasters.
