ATLANTIC, Iowa - The Charles E. Lakin Foundation is launching the Revitalize Southwest Iowa Initiative, with plans to donate $165 million to support 51 communities in the region.
The initiative aims to reverse the economic decline that has impacted southwest Iowa, where the population has dropped by 17% since 1900, compared to a 380% increase in East Central Nebraska.
More details about the ambitious project will be announced during a press conference Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Bluebird Hill Event Venue in Atlantic.
Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and Iowa Economic Development Authority Director Debi Durham are expected to attend.
