CHILLICOTHE, Mo. - The Cultural Corner Art Guild and Gallery in Chillicothe is hosting an exhibition of works by Joseph Imhof, an artist known for his detailed depictions of Pueblo Indian life in New Mexico.

The exhibit, featuring pieces from the private collection of Michael Gaines, runs through Sunday, Sept. 29. A free public reception will take place on the final day from 1 to 3 p.m., with a special talk by Gaines at 2 p.m.

Imhof gained recognition for his authentic portrayals of Pueblo customs and life, earning him the title “the Grand Old Man of the Pueblos.”

His works are celebrated for their anthropological detail, and he was the first to introduce lithography to Taos, New Mexico.

Gaines' collection includes about 30 pieces, ranging from early drawings created during Imhof’s time with Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show to personal works given to close friends.

Cultural Corner is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m.
