MDC encouraging hunters to share the harvest

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Conservation is encouraging deer hunters to participate in the Share the Harvest program to help feed hungry Missourians.

By donating surplus venison, hunters can provide high-quality protein to local food banks and pantries. The program has supplied nearly five million pounds of venison since it began in 1992.

The MDC is also reminding hunters about Chronic Wasting Disease testing requirements. Deer harvested from CWD Management Zones must be tested before donation.

Hunters are urged to follow regulations to help slow the spread of CWD, a deadly disease that threatens Missouri’s deer population.

Deer season runs through January 15, with both archery and firearms portions. For more information, visit mdc.mo.gov.
