CHILLICOTHE, Mo. - Deer hunters in Missouri have a new way to help monitor Chronic Wasting Disease this season.

The Missouri Department of Conservation has set up self-serve deer head drop-off sites in nine counties across the Northwest region.

These sites allow hunters to submit deer heads for voluntary CWD testing throughout the 2024-25 fall hunting season. To use the service, hunters must remove the deer head, leaving about six inches of neck attached.

Freezers in the KXCV/KRNW listening area are available at New Boston's Fire Department, the Linn County USDA Office in Brookfield, the Chillicothe MDC Office, Tina Quick Shop in Tina, D-Tone General Store in Plattsburg, Polo Realty, Crossroads Liquor and Sporting in Princeton and American Sportsman in Trenton.

Hunters will need to provide contact information, their Telecheck ID, and the location where the deer was harvested.

The drop-off sites will not be available during the opening weekend of the firearms season in counties with mandatory sampling.
