JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance (DCI) is emphasizing the importance of preparedness as part of National Preparedness Month this September.
Despite drought conditions, Missouri faced costly damage from severe weather and flash flooding this year, affecting homes and public infrastructure.
DCI is partnering with the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency to encourage residents to review their insurance policies and ensure they are covered for disasters like floods and earthquakes, which are not included in most standard homeowners' policies.
SEMA Director Jim Remillard noted in a press release that flooding is the most common disaster in Missouri, urging residents to have a plan, build a kit, and receive emergency alerts.
