MU Extension warning farm families about what they post online

social media

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The University of Missouri Extension is urging families to be cautious when posting on social media during fairs and events.

Experts advise waiting until you return home to post pictures of your farm animals and family at local fairs to prevent criminals from targeting your unguarded property.

Tagged photos can reveal your location and give criminals a timeline for your return. Teens, in particular, are reminded to be careful about sharing personal information and avoid online predators.

MU Extension’s Small Business Development Center recommends using multifactor authentication, avoiding public Wi-Fi for personal accounts, and keeping software up to date for better online safety.
