Missouri officials release August employment figures

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri’s nonfarm payroll employment increased by 7,900 jobs in August 2024, while the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose slightly to 3.9%.

Private industry added 5,800 jobs, and government employment grew by 2,100 jobs.

Over the past year, Missouri saw a significant increase of 98,500 jobs, though the unemployment rate rose from 3.2% in August 2023 to 3.9% in August 2024.

Key sectors driving job growth included manufacturing, private education, health services, and government. However, leisure and hospitality saw a loss of 1,900 jobs.
