DES MOINES, Iowa - With excellent weather lately, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is reminding residents that fall is a prime time to fish in Iowa’s rivers.
The DNR says with cooler temperatures, fish are more active and hungry. Anglers should target areas where riffles enter pools or rocky spots for the best chance of success.
Fish are beginning to move toward deep pools in preparation for winter, and low water levels could cause them to head there earlier than usual.
Channel catfish, walleyes, and smallmouth bass are popular catches this season, with deep-running crankbaits and jigs working well early on. For more details and access points on Iowa rivers, visit the DNR's website.
