Iowa DNR urging drivers to watch out for deer

DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa drivers are being warned to stay alert for deer on the roads over the next few weeks. As autumn sets in, deer become more active during breeding season, especially from mid-October to late November.

This increase in deer movement, combined with crop harvests and the upcoming switch from daylight savings time, raises the risk of vehicle-deer collisions.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is encouraging drivers to slow down, maintain a safe distance, and scan roadsides, particularly near brushy areas and tree lines.

Officials also advise against swerving for deer, which could lead to more serious accidents.
