DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa snowmobilers have one less permit to worry about this winter.
A new law, effective since this past July, now includes the trail user permit in the annual snowmobile registration fee, which is set at $30 plus administrative costs.
This change means Iowa residents no longer need a separate trail permit, which previously cost $15.
The revenue from these fees supports Iowa’s snowmobile programs, including the Snowmobile Trail Grant Program for trail maintenance, grooming, and equipment, managed by the Iowa State Snowmobile Association in partnership with local clubs.
Non-resident snowmobilers still need to purchase and display a trail permit, available online or at County Recorder’s Offices. For more information, visit gooutdoorsiowa.com.
