Iowa state parks preparing for winter months

DES MOINES, Iowa - As Iowa’s camping season winds down, state parks are preparing for the colder months ahead. Water in campgrounds is being shut off, and shower houses will close as park staff winterize facilities.

Campers can check the status of water availability at specific parks by visiting iowadnr.gov/parkclosures, which is regularly updated.

RV dump stations will also be closed for the winter, but the Iowa Department of Transportation provides a list of alternatives on its website. Campsites are now implementing lower off-season rates.

Despite the water shutdown, visitors are encouraged to continue camping and enjoying park amenities. Year-round cabins are also available for overnight stays. To make reservations, visit Iowa State Parks’ website.
