Missouri State Highway Patrol warns residents about scam

scam alert

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri State Highway Patrol is alerting residents about a phone scam spreading across the state.

In these cases, a caller poses as a trooper investigating a motor vehicle crash and tries to extract money from the victim.

The Highway Patrol warns that the scammer may use intimidation tactics, such as threats of court charges or legal proceedings, to pressure victims.

Officials emphasize that patrol employees will never contact people to solicit funds or demand payments and do not handle bonds or accept money to resolve charges.

Anyone who suspects they’ve been targeted by this scam is urged to contact their local Patrol headquarters.
