ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will hold its annual winter operations drill Thursday, October 10 to prepare for the upcoming season.

MoDOT crews will be out in increased numbers, driving snowplow routes starting at 8 a.m. in rural areas and 9 a.m. in urban areas.

The exercise, which ends at 3 p.m., will allow operators to familiarize themselves with the roads and equipment in case of winter weather emergencies.

MoDOT officials say the drill is important, noting that nearly 19% of snowplow drivers are new this year.

During the drill, crews will respond to a simulated snowstorm, test emergency communication systems, and inspect equipment to ensure it’s ready for winter.

MoDOT is also hiring full-time maintenance workers and emergency operators for the winter season. More information can be found at modot.org.
