JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - With fall here, deer are more active, increasing the risk of vehicle collisions, especially during October and November.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) reminds drivers to stay alert, particularly between 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Deer are on the move for breeding season, peaking in mid-November.
Missouri saw 3,591 deer-related crashes in 2023, resulting in 4 fatalities and 420 injuries. To stay safe, drivers should scan roadsides for deer, avoid swerving, and be cautious after spotting one deer, as others may follow.
If a deer is hit, contact MoDOT for assistance.
