ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - This weekend, Coleman Hawkins Park in St. Joseph will host the 15th annual ‘Bluegrass Battles Hunger’ event, benefiting the Second Harvest Community Food Bank.
The free concert series features area bands, with attendees encouraged to bring nonperishable food items like peanut butter, cereal, and pasta, or make monetary donations.
While all donations are welcome, Second Harvest officials note they cannot accept fresh proteins or glass containers due to a lack of refrigeration on-site.
Second Harvest, which serves about 40,000 people across 18 counties, has raised up to 2,000 pounds of food at previous events.
The concerts kick off Friday at 6 p.m. and continues on Saturday at 4 p.m., with performances by local favorites like Beth and Brandon, Dewpew and Morris, and True North. Food vendors will also be available throughout the event.
