MARYVILLE, Mo. - Maryville officials say they're still working to extinguish a brush pile fire that began on Thanksgiving Day at the former Maryville Transfer Station on North Main Street.
The fire, fueled by older brush and debris, has proven difficult to fully suppress despite extensive efforts by the Maryville Fire Department and public works crews.
Over 50,000 gallons of water have been used so far, and this week, officials plan to disassemble the debris pile, create firebreaks, and add specialized agents to help contain the fire.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is monitoring the situation, but nearby residents should expect ongoing smoke as the fire smolders and suppression efforts continue.
City officials acknowledge the inconvenience and appreciate the community’s patience as they work to resolve the issue. Residents with questions or concerns can call 660-562-8001.
