DES MOINES, Iowa - Nearly $416,000 in grants has been awarded to 138 rural fire departments across Iowa to enhance wildfire protection efforts.
These 50% cost-share grants support departments in purchasing wildfire suppression tools, personal protective gear, and communications equipment.
Among the recipients are departments from cities like Clarinda, Glenwood, and Shenandoah, as well as smaller communities.
The funding is provided through a partnership between Iowa DNR Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service. These reports track fire responses and assist in informing Congress about wildfire activity.
