DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is recomming residents kick off the New Year with a First Day Hike at one of the state parks or forests.
On January 1, more than 40 locations will offer guided or self-guided hikes, allowing visitors to enjoy the peaceful beauty of nature in winter.
Free guided hikes, hosted at 26 parks, will range from one to two miles or longer and may include wildlife viewing and hot beverages. For details about participating parks, visit iowadnr.gov/firstdayhikes.
