Iowa DNR now selling paddlefish licenses

DES MOINES, Iowa - Anglers can prepare for the upcoming paddlefish season as the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) begins selling Missouri and Big Sioux River paddlefish licenses and tags from December 15 through January 7.

Only a limited number of paddlefish licenses are available: 950 for residents and 50 for nonresidents. Anglers can buy up to two tags — one in December and a second in January, or two in January if none were purchased earlier.

Licenses, harvest tags, and regulations will be mailed to buyers in mid-January. The DNR encourages purchasers to complete an electronic survey, even if they don’t catch a paddlefish, to help improve future seasons.

The paddlefish season on the Missouri and Big Sioux Rivers runs February 1st through April 30th. Licenses can be purchased online at gooutdoorsiowa.com.
