COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Rural communities in Pottawattamie County are getting a significant financial boost to drive economic growth, thanks to the Iowa West Foundation.
The foundation announced $2.6 million in grants for its final 2024 funding cycle, including nearly one million dollars through the Vibrant Rural Communities program.
The supports small towns with both grant funding and technical assistance. Among the recipients is Oakland, awarded $400,000 to develop new water sourcing wells—a vital step for sustainable growth.
Other grants include $250,000 for a wastewater upgrade in Underwood, $125,000 for a community center in Avoca, and $125,000 for infrastructure in Treynor.
All projects are required to directly support economic development. In addition, housing initiatives received major support, with $360,000 for Anawim Housing and $300,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Council Bluffs.
