JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Preliminary data from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reveals that hunters killed 159,120 deer during the November firearms season, which ran from November 16-26.
The total includes 82,613 antlered bucks, 13,203 button bucks, and 63,304 does. This year’s total is down from last year’s 193,885 deer and falls about 15% below the five-year average.
The MDC attributes the drop to a calendar shift that placed the season later in the rut, along with warm temperatures, high winds, and an abundance of acorns in the woods that reduced deer movement.
