JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri landowners have a unique opportunity to help sustain the state’s iconic white oak trees through a new program from the University of Missouri Extension and the Missouri Department of Conservation.
The program aims to establish white oak seed orchards on private lands, providing a long-term supply of high-quality acorns.
Participants who complete a free three-part webinar series will receive 50 white oak seedlings to plant on their property in a plantation-style arrangement.
Landowners must commit to site preparation, planting, and ongoing care, including weed control for five years.
The webinar will also highlight the importance of white oak to Missouri’s economy and wildlife, with insights into seedling production at the George O. White State Forest Nursery.
The series runs January 15, 22, and 29 from noon to 1 p.m. To register or learn more, visit muext.us/whiteoakgardenplot.
