Northwest Missouri State head baseball coach Darin Loe announced Wednesday morning that he will retire at the end of the 2024 season.

Loe has spent the last 25 years leading Bearcat baseball. With 15 regular season games remaining this spring, he currently holds a program-high 586 wins. Loe owns a total of 742 victories across his entire 31-year career that includes stops at Missouri Valley College and Baker University.

"My wife and I just felt like it was the right time," Loe said of the decision to retire. "We're excited for the next chapter in our lives."

At Northwest, Loe coached 104 All-MIAA players, won the league in 2018, and guided the Bearcats to the NCAA Region Tournament in 2003.

"I always get a little bit emotional talking to the team about these things. It was tough to tell those guys that you've spent two, three, four, five, even with COVID, six years with that you won't be coaching them for next year. They took it great and I left it at 'let's go out and have a great April and finish this thing up right.'"

A graduate of Valley City State University in Valley City, ND, Loe was a two-sport star for the Vikings in college. He still holds numerous pitching records including career wins (28) and strikeouts (380). He was also an all-conference quarterback for the football team in three seasons. The Seattle Mariners drafted Loe in the 26th round of the 1989 MLB Amateur Draft.

The Bearcats have seven home regular season games left on the schedule. They will play at Fort Hays in a three-game series beginning Friday, April 5.
