Northwest men's and women's basketball were each among the 10 teams under consideration in the NCAA Central Region rankings.

The college basketball postseason begins in just 2 weeks...and both Northwest Missouri State teams already locked and loaded for the MIAA Tournament. The next step is the NCAA Regional, and both squads are getting their first glimpse at what the field of eight could look like in the central.

The NCAA released an alphabetical listing of teams in consideration for their regionals Wednesday. Both Northwest teams are included.

On the men's side, the Bearcat men were one of two teams that made the cut of the 10 in consideration. Fort Hays is the only other conference team included.

Northwest, 21-4 and 17-2 in the MIAA, is one win away from clinching a share of its 11th straight regular season league title.

The region rankings on the women's side is much more MIAA heavy.

Northwest is joined by Missouri Western, Missouri Southern, Central Missouri, Fort Hays, Nebraska Kearney and Pittsburg State.

The Bearcat women, 20-5 and 14-5 in league play, have a chance to bolster their resume this weekend with the 21st ranked Griffons in Maryville. The Northwest women haven't reached the NCAA Tournament since 2011.
