The Clarinda A’s added another name to the long, prestigious list of players that went from Eberly Field to a Major League Baseball organization.
Right-handed pitcher Clark Candiotti was selected by the San Diego Padres in the fourth round with the 135th pick in the amateur draft on Monday.
Candiotti, a member of the A’s in 2019, finished his college career this spring going 7-4 with a 3.39 ERA for the Arizona Wildcats. His 103 strikeouts led the Pac-12 as he was named all-conference during his lone season in Tucson.
The highlight of his senior year came on March 29 when he threw a complete game against UCLA with 12 strikeouts, the most by a Wildcat in a game since 2018.
Candiotti, the son of former MLB player Tom Candiotti, will have the chance to join a group of A’s alumni that reached the big leagues, including Ozzie Smith, Bud Black, Von Hayes, Chuck Knoblauch and Andy Benes.
