Maryville puts 12 on the All-MEC Football Team

Twelve different Spoofhounds totaled 17 All-Midland Empire Conference accolades for the 2024 season.


Maryville High School football placed 7 on the All-Midland Empire Conference First Team after posting a 9-5 record making a deep run in the state playoffs.

A season after being named all-state on the offensive line, Spoofhound senior Lucas Vierthaler was a unanimous All-MEC first team selection following another dominant season at offensive tackle.

Kole Zarbano was a first teamer at wide receiver and defensive back. The senior led Maryville with 571 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, while also grabbing six interceptions from his safety position. Sadler Viau landed on the first team at running back and punter. Viau, a junior, rushed for 899 yards and 16 touchdowns. His biggest performance came in the district championship with 204 yards against Cameron.

The Maryville defense received first team all-conference honors with senior defensive lineman Major Scarbrough and senior linebacker Gus McCollough. Scarbrough racked up 3.5 sacks and a team-high 7.5 tackles for loss at defensive end.

McCollough packed a punch at linebacker for the Spoofhounds throughout the year. The 2023 all-state linebacker finished his senior season with 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. One of his two interceptions came in the Class 3 Quarterfinals against Odessa as Maryville shutout the high-flying Bulldog offense.

In total, 12 different Spoofhounds brought in 17 All-MEC accolades.
