Casey Phillips was a three-time state qualifier during her career at Maryville High School.
Maryville High School senior Casey Phillips will continue her golf career in Trenton next year.
Phillips signed her letter of intent this morning to join the North Central Missouri College program.
The three-time state qualifer was a leader on the Spoofhounds team this fall that finished fourth in the Class 2 tournament. As her final high school season was coming to a close, Phillips love for the sport and camaraderie within the team spurred her to make the leap to college.
"It wasn't really a goal until my senior year was over and I realized how much I missed it," Phillips said. "I wanted to play at a competitive level so I just continued with it."
Maryville head coach Brenda Ricks has watched Phillips mature as a golfer since she was in middle school. For all of the strides Phillips has shown on the course over the years, her coach believes the most impressive is her mental game.
"She's got the skills when it comes to striking the golf ball," Ricks said. "But we know the toughest part of this game is the six inches between your ears. Larry (Ricks) has played a big role in helping them with that, and getting them to really focus on having a positive mental attitude. I think that will be a strength for her."
Along with golfing at North Central Missouri College, Phillips plans to major in nursing.
