June 7, 2024ST. JOSEPH, Mo.
Through the first week-plus of the season, the St. Joseph Mustangs' record remains unblemished.
The 2023 MINK League runner-up burst out of the gates winning eight-straight and taking an undefeated record into the second weekend of the season.
The Mustangs pitching has been outstanding, sporting a team ERA of 2.50 and 10 strikeouts per nine innings. The bats have been just as impressive, averaging 8.7 runs per game.
St. Joseph manager Johnny Coy says the results on the field are a product of what happens prior to first pitch.
"Guys are here so early eager to just work and get better. We have 80% of the team working out together, and that's something that just doesn't happen in summer wood bat league baseball. These guys work hard, they enjoy the process, and they just enjoy being around the game of baseball."
The Mustangs are back home tonight and tomorrow. Saturday's game against Chillicothe is also Northwest Night at Phil Welch Stadium.
