Upgrades to Maryville High School athletic facilities have begun.
Construction on the Maryville High School outdoor athletic facilities is officially underway.
Sod has been stripped from the Spoofhound football/soccer and baseball/softball fields, and construction on the new video board has begun.
The video board will be a major upgrade over the aging analog scoreboard that currently sits in the south end zone at the 'Hound Pound. District officials have worked and trained with Daktronics over the last couple of months to learn the new technology.
In addition to the gameday experience that will come with the video board, Maryville High School students will have the opportunity to learn how to produce content and operate the equipment during soccer and football games.
"Our students, through Donovan Harris and our multimedia class, will get some hands-on training and learn how to do a video production," Spoofhound head football coach Matt Webb said.
The addition of the new video board was made possible by a donation from Nodaway Valley Bank that was announced in March.
"It's certainly really exciting. When you look at real world application and students that want to go into that as a growing field, our district is very supportive of that. There will be some students that will get some extreme value out of that."
Webb added that the school is planning some events so students and staff have a chance to work with the new video board before the first home soccer and football games next fall.
An official groundbreaking ceremony for all of the construction happening on the athletic fields at Maryville High School will be Tuesday morning at 11:30.
