"Ag Outlook" released for Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The University of Missouri has released its "Show-Me 2025 Missouri Agricultural Outlook," highlighting mixed prospects for the state’s crops and livestock sectors and significant financial challenges ahead.

The report projects a $697 million dollar drop in Missouri’s net farm income for 2024, with another $0.7 billion decline in 2025, driven by falling crop receipts and reduced crop insurance payments.

Economists note that while corn production is expected to decline as prices rise, soybean production is projected to increase despite falling prices.

On the livestock side, lower beef cattle inventories may drive up prices, while rising hog inventories could push prices down.

There’s a silver lining: $391 million in federal economic assistance through the American Relief Act of 2025 will inject much-needed support, increasing net farm income by 14%.

However, farmers are advised to plan carefully using a new cash flow decision tool, available online.
