MO DOR reminds residents about REAL ID

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The deadline for REAL ID enforcement is fast approaching on May 7, and only 41% of Missouri’s Department of Revenue document holders currently have a REAL ID.

While federal agencies may phase in enforcement over two years, Missourians are urged to prepare.

A REAL ID-compliant license features a star in the upper-right corner, while noncompliant licenses are marked “NOT FOR REAL ID PURPOSES.”

Though obtaining a REAL ID is optional, it will be required for entering federal facilities, nuclear plants, and boarding domestic flights. Alternative TSA-approved IDs, like a U.S. passport, are also acceptable.

To apply for a REAL ID, residents need documents verifying identity, lawful status, Social Security number, and residency.

Applications can be submitted at Missouri’s contract license offices, with fees matching those of noncompliant IDs. The REAL ID Act was passed in 2005 to enhance security after 9/11.
