DES MOINES, Iowa - Ice fishing shelters on state-owned lands and waters in Iowa must be removed by Thursday, February 20, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
This includes shelters left on frozen lakes, parking lots, and boat ramps. Shelter owners who camp in a paid campsite within a state park are allowed to keep their shelters past the deadline.
However, the DNR is urging all owners to remove their shelters early rather than waiting until the last minute. If a shelter falls through the ice, the owner is responsible for retrieving it from the lake.
The DNR advises anglers to plan ahead and remove their shelters safely before conditions deteriorate.
