KING CITY, Mo. - A crash early Wednesday morning in DeKalb County claimed the life of an 18-year-old King City man and left another driver seriously injured.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened just after 6:20 a.m. on U.S. 169, about half a mile south of King City.

Authorities say the 18-year-old was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Colorado northbound when he crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 20-year-old King City man.

Emergency crews transported both drivers to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, where the 18-year-old was pronounced dead. His body was taken to Roberson-Polley Funeral Home in Albany. The 20-year-old suffered serious injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. Authorities say the 18-year-old was not wearing a seat belt.
