MU Extension Office offers food safety tips for Super Bowl

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Super Bowl Sunday is the second-biggest food consumption day in the U.S., but experts warn it also comes with food safety risks.

University of Missouri Extension Office says says perishable foods left out for hours at game-day parties can lead to foodborne illnesses.

The FDA’s "two-hour rule" is key: foods like wings, deli wraps, and dips should not sit out for more than two hours at room temperature—or just one hour if it’s hotter than 90 degrees.

To keep food safe, serve smaller portions and refrigerate leftovers quickly. Other tips include washing hands, cooking meats to safe temperatures, and keeping cold foods chilled and hot foods heated.
