Maryville voters approve new water treatment plant

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Maryville voters have overwhelmingly approved a $50 million bond issue to fund a new water treatment plant, with 80% voting in favor.

The measure allows the city to apply for a low-interest loan through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources’ Drinking Water State Revolving Fund ahead of the March 1 deadline.

City officials say the approval keeps plans on track to complete the new facility by August 2027.

Without the new plant, the city would have to replace aging filtration membranes at the current plant, a move that could cost up to $10 million.

The new facility will be built at Mozingo Lake, Maryville’s primary water source since 1994, replacing the existing plant, which was originally designed to treat water from the One Hundred and Two River.

It will also introduce ozone biofiltration, a first in Missouri, to improve water quality and eliminate taste and odor issues.
