OMAHA, Neb. - The Nebraska State Patrol have released details about the tragic death of Trooper Kyle McAcy, who was killed in the line of duty earlier this week while responding to a crash on Interstate 80 between Ashland and Greenwood.

At a news conference Tuesday, Colonel John Bolduc said McAcy and another trooper were assisting at an accident involving a snowplow and two passenger vehicles when the fatal incident occurred Monday morning.

McAcy had spoken with the plow driver and was walking back to the other vehicles when the plow began reversing and struck him. Despite efforts from fellow officers and bystanders, McAcy succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

McAcy, a 10-year veteran of the patrol, was remembered for his infectious personality and dedication to service.

Lieutenant Jeremy Thorson, his fellow officer, said McAcy took great pride in helping others, serving as both a crisis negotiator and a firearms instructor.

The Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, a process that could take up to two months. Funeral arrangements for McAcy will be announced at a later date.
