MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Nodaway County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a fake toll violation scam circulating in the area.
Officials say scammers are sending fraudulent toll notices through email and text, demanding immediate payment for unpaid tolls. Authorities urge residents not to click on suspicious links or respond to unsolicited messages.
They also remind the public that legitimate agencies will never request payment through gift cards. If you receive one of these scam messages, do not engage with it.
Instead, report it to the Federal Trade Commission to help prevent further fraudulent activity.
