JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Missouri families who have owned their farms for at least a century can now apply for official recognition as a Missouri Century Farm.

The program, sponsored by University of Missouri Extension, the MU College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, and Missouri Farm Bureau, honors farms that have been in the same family since December 31, 1925.

To qualify, the farm must be at least 40 acres of the original land acquisition and still contribute to farm income. More than 8,000 Missouri farms have received the designation since the program began in 1976.

The application deadline is May 1st, and a $140 fee covers a certificate, a metal sign, and a booklet for approved applicants. More details and applications are available at extension.missouri.edu.
