SIDNEY, Iowa - An elderly Sidney man has been sentenced in a child sexual assault case in Fremont County.
81-year-old Ronald Dean Boyer was convicted of two counts of lascivious acts with a child and sentenced this week in Fremont County District Court.
His charges stemmed from an investigation that began in December 2023, revealing Boyer sexually assaulted a child multiple times between 2020 and 2023.
In an August 2024 interview, he admitted to acts of sexual abuse dating back to the early 1980s. Boyer pleaded guilty to reduced charges under a plea agreement.
While prosecutors sought the maximum penalty—two consecutive 10-year prison terms—Judge Margaret Reyes sentenced him to two 10-year terms served concurrently, then suspended the sentence, placing him on two years of probation.
Boyer must live in a residential treatment center, register as a sex offender, and complete a sex offender treatment program. The Fremont County Sheriff's Office objected to the court’s decision.
